I found Rose’s point of living on to hope and love rather than dying to destroy even more valuable when seen in dialogue with Rouge One. Rouge One is all about the nessecary self-sacrifice, TLJ builds on that argument with a “but” - that dying for the cause isn’t of value in itself, that surviving can be resistance enough.
