The Umbrella Academy season 2
I super enjoyed season 2 of the Umbrella Academy, and I'm listening to the soundtrack on repeat on Spotify:

Some of the song choices are ingenious. Putting an upbeat, fun song along with a fight scene signals what this show is about: it's saying, we like fight choreography, and you do too! It's cool! The show is not fluffy, but it's absolutely not gritty. It embraces the enthusiasm and unreality of comic books.
Spoilers and content notes below the cut.
...
In season two, I was very pleased that Allison and Vanya both got love stories. They didn't get a Happily Ever After, but they got to be happy for a little while. They both fell in love with good people who respected and loved them back. We got more people of color, and more queer characters.
I like the theme of people who grew up in abusive situations, trying to live good lives despite that legacy; this is clear in Lila's arc and is so powerful.
...
Content notes are many:
Torture (SIGH): Vanya gets tortured; I Fast Forwarded through this scene and didn't miss any important info.
Diego gets drugged and kidnapped.
Lots of violence, including guns, knives, choking.
Smoking, alcohol, and recreational use of nitrous oxide.
Homophobia (presented as bad).
There is an autistic kid and his father threatens to put him into an institution, but this does not happen.
Allison's power involves mind control and a violation of consent. She mostly does not use her power in this season but there a couple of instances.
