Looking for vids recs on a theme

Hi!

I've been invited to present a themed vid set at WisCon's vid party this year. My theme is, loosely, vids that address the problematic nature of guns, war, and violence in our media. I have a bunch of vids already in mind, but would really like to get some vids that are outside of my viewing knowledge, so to speak-- vids I've never seen before, older vids, rare fandoms, that sort of thing.

So I would like recs! If you know of a vid that you think fits this theme, even loosely, please point me to it! I would like to take a look.

I really love [personal profile] chaila's TWW vid set to 'Handlebars' and the Doctor Who vid set to the same. (I, uhm, really like 'Handlebars.')

I have no idea what you already know/don't know.

Superstar by heresluck is about Faith and Buffy's relationship to violence, imo. I think that's about all I've got, :/
laurashapiro: text only: there's nothing wrong with your vid, you're just freaking out (vidding: freaking out)

I imagine you may have thought of this already, but the Media Cannibals' "Detachable Penis" is a humorous but pointed look at the classic guns-as-penises metaphor.

Likewise, Seah, Margie, and Speranza made "Metaphor" a few years ago, a more contemporary take on the same subject. Either or both of these could add some leavening to what would otherwise be a pretty heavy vidshow.

I love Crazy Ass Violence by Big Big Truck (multifandom AMV). More of a pastiche of the ridiculousness of ultra-testosterone-laden-violence very prevalent in so much 80s/90s anime.

Hmm. There's "On the Prowl", which is really torture-porn rather than gunplay kink. It's a disturbing vid rather than a fun one, but definitely about fans enjoying the violence while critiquing it/themselves.

[personal profile] giandujakiss's Shock the Monkey (H5O) is a powerful indictment of police brutality--I got a lot out of it and I don't even watch.

It's a VCR-made AMV, too! With sooooo many sources, and such gr8 timing and lip-sync and everything... It blows my mind. *__*

I don't blame you. It's pretty hard to take.

Oh, I can't remember, yeah, I think you may need to make an account there to download things. *shrugs* I mean, I feel like it's worth it to have one b/c it is one of the main hubs for AMVs (and also it doesn't cost anything), but if you don't want to make one maybe I could send it to you some other way.

I don't know whether vids and videos mean the same thing, but there is a good documentary called "This Film is Not Yet Rated" that talks about the problems of violence/war in TV and videos.

Unfortunately I don't remember the details (aka the vidder/name of the vid, though I remember that it was a multi-fandom vid), but I remember seeing a vid that criticized the tendency to treat "strong women" and "women who are able to physically kick ass" as one and the same thing. It was really interesting and made me think about that distinction more than I had before, so I don't understand why I can't remember more about it! But if I do, I'll let you know.
