I've seen a couple of episodes (while the flatmate watched it). I also read one of the books, a few years ago. I thought that they were okay, but I didn't love them as much as some people have. Maybe because Phryne seemed to be more of a contemporary feminist than a 1920s one? And yes, while some of the stories seem to have more than just a murder to solve, why do they always have to have a murder?
I've avoided the intersex murder so far, thank ghu. And yes, the number of characters murdered in books likely outstrips by far the number of actual (similar) murders IRL. Also thank ghu.
