Favorite book covers

It's possible I've posted this before but who cares right?! Here are some of my favorite book covers.

Anne of the Island, collector's edition, by LM Montgomery.
Anne stands in windswept grass, looking out towards the sea. Gilbert stands off in the distance, looking at Anne. The image evokes freedom and love of place.

The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.

The King holds a sword point down. He's shown in profile, looking down and his eye is obscured by the hilt. He has scars on his face and his hands. The Queen rests her hand on his shoulder; she is perhaps standing while he is seated or kneeling. He wears blue and gold, and a signet ring with a red stone. She wears red and gold a similar, smaller ring. The image evokes strife, the weight of rule, and the bond between these two figures.

...so all my favorite book covers are by Leo and Diane Dillon.

In particular, The Left Hand of Darkness where two faces huddle together in black surrounded by a rainbow mosaic of circles and rectangles, evoking snow and the excitement/terror of cultural clash.

I love that King of Attolia cover! (the first image isn't showing up for me)

I adore the original cover of Wheel of the Infinite (this is what the full painting looks like). I'm also really fond of these Song of the Lioness covers (especially Lioness Rampant).

Those are all great covers. One cover that I actually bought a print of is Whelan's one for Exile's Gate by C.J. Cherryh (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/834538.Exile_s_Gate). It's also a great change compared to Whelan's revisionist cover of Gate of Ivrel (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57084.Gate_of_Ivrel). Hard to believe it's the same artist.

I know, right?! But he still stayed true to the book in other ways. Vanye *is* the dog at Morgaine's feet (if you don't know the book, he swears something like fealty to her, but it's even more, she could do whatever she wants with him). She does have a big white cloak and he does wrap a white cloth around his helm.
