Once Upon a Time
I have watched 13 episodes of "Once Upon a Time" on Netflix in the last week. It is very addictive! It got me hooked just seven minutes in. I especially like that this show features a lot of women characters (in 3 main roles and several secondary roles). I also enjoy the parallel story telling between the fairy tale land and Earth land. There are at least 2 Stargate actors involved so far (Mr. Gold and Gepetto).
After episode 13 I am definitely tired of the soap-opera love triangle mess between Mary Margaret (Snow), David (Prince Charming) and Kathryn (King Midas' daughter). This will they or won't they crap just gets repetitive and emotionally exhausting and I have very little tolerance for it.
My favorite episode involved Graham, the sheriff, connecting with his wolf. This episode was the one that most clearly broke the boundaries between the two worlds-- most eps leave it ambiguous as to whether or not the fairy tale world is actually real, or a metaphor. This episode said: it's real! It went there. The stakes were being raised for all the characters. And it made me cry.

The second season's been good so far, and the mid-season break ends with on a real fun (for some values of fun) event.
I love this show so much, despite it going into weeds at times.

The show in general has a habit of dragging things out for too long, though the Mary/David/Kathryn triangle is the only plotline that really gets flack for it. (Not that I don't agree they dragged it out so much. Though, I find the shows approach of deliberately making Kathryn-traditionally the one who would be painted as the villain to make it easier to root for the lovers-the most sympathetic of the three and almost writing it from her POV at times to be interesting. Part of me thinks that the frustration we feel over that is deliberate on the writers' part.)

Hahahah! Awesome!
Yeah, it's nice that Kathryn is sympathetic-- she started out being annoying but quickly became a very likable character, and it's David that is behaving badly. One thing I really like about this show is that pretty much everyone makes mistakes and does bad things, and it's usually for understandable reasons. Even Regina, who we know is evil, seems ambiguously so at times; and Mr. Gold is sympathetic too! It's well done.

I never found Kathryn annoying, but I do think they deliberately set it up so that we'd expect her to be the mean (possibly conniving) interferer with the canon OTP so that they could dash that particular set of expectations.
I admit, I have difficulty sympathizing with Rumples/Gold. I initially enjoyed him as a villain but but they lost me with him completely in skin deep and I've only found his plotline to be increasingly aggravating since. There are moments when I enjoy him, but they're pretty far and few between. Most seem to like him a lot, though.

I'm also really fond of Kathryn, which is the only reason why the love triangle didn't make me throw rocks, because normally I hate them. I was also REALLY glad to see some responsibility being placed on the guy in the middle.

....it occurs to me that I've been letting episodes of this show pile up in the TiVo and that paladin and I should marathon them. Perhaps we will do that this weekend.
