Coincidentally, I can identify the person in first icon. She's an actress from the early 20th century named Maude Adams. I know her because she happened to donate some property to the congregation of Catholic sisters for whom I work.
Her Wikipedia entry does mention some speculation that she was a lesbian. All I can tell you on that front is that she is buried on the sisters' property next to her long-time personal secretary, Louise Boynton.
