I really enjoyed this and would have watched it sooner if I'd known how gay it is. Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little light up the screen, what a joy.
I partly grew up on this movie, along with The Producers (1967). It ensured a permanent imprinting on Gene Wilder (and when overlapped with Victor/Victoria (1982), also on Alex Karras). As for Cleavon Little, "You'd do it for Randolph Scott!" is on regular rotation in our household idiolect. Also there is Madeline Kahn. And the ending is perfect.
[edit] Also I should have remembered to rec you this fic.
