Shazam! - recommended
Jun. 29th, 2019 10:18 pmTonight I went to see Shazam! at the 2nd-run theater. I went with a friend, mostly to get out of the heat for a while and enjoy the AC. We both loved this film.
This DC-comics-based movie is fun, warm, and at times very funny. There are some serious moments but it's overall a comedy. It has a more diverse cast than most superhero movies do, though it still focuses on a white boy. It does not have any romantic subplots!
Billy is a foster kid who gets chosen to be a "champion" for the side of good. He transforms into an adult with superpowers. With the help of his foster brother Frank, he learns how to be a superhero. Eventually he must face the film's supervillain, but he won't be able to do it without the help of his family.
Content notes: a car accident, some cartoony violence, bullying.
Note that there is a mid-credits scene and an end-credits scene.
