"Starstruck" and "Hackers"
Jan. 11th, 2024 11:53 pmSo all day my eyes haven't focused properly and the pupils are unequal. I've actually felt ok otherwise, kind of spacy but in a nice way.
It's been about 10 months since my concussion.
My roommate has HBO Max so I watched:
Season one of StarStruck. Rose Matafeo plays Jessie, a young woman living in London, working a couple of low-wage jobs, and sleeping around. One of her hookups turns out to be a very famous actor named Tom Kapoor. The two of them keep connecting and having a complicated not-relationship. This is a fun and energetic show, with a lot of great banter and romantic tension between the two leads.
I really enjoyed it but it also started to stress me out in season 2, so I am taking a break.
Hackers, I hadn't seen since it came out in 1995, and I really enjoyed re-watching it. I kept thinking that the aesthetics and themes are right in line with Dark Angel, and I'm sure this movie influenced the show, and also the Matrix and Leverage. The heroes are punks, young people, and hackers, the villains are corporations, the cops, and sometimes other hackers. The villains try to divide and conquer--threaten people, get them to turn on each other. But in the end the team succeeds due to cooperation. There are some silly scenes where the film makers try to make hacking look exciting and daring, and they mostly succeed actually. Yay this was fun. Didn't love the gender politics, did love Angelina Jolie. Did not love Jonny Lee Miller's nasally accent, did love the fashion of the whole crew.
