Yeah. And the thing is... OK, I know nothing about using a wheelchair, so I'm not talking about that, just my own experience. I'm a cane user. And I would give anything not to be - I'm sick of being in pain, I'm sick of only having one free hand to carry shopping, the list goes on.
But. There is no fix-it. So I whinge about it to friends and then carry on. And I'm tired of (usually able-bodied) people acting like the only way I could possibly have hobbies, have relationships, get laid, and have a good life is if I were magically fixed. And to me, that's how fix-it fic often reads, that the only way you can have a good time is if someone takes your disability away.
