I'm angry about episode 4.3. I wish this show would stick to its strong suit, and write about women, children, and childbirth, and stay away from "Very Special Episodes". This episode gave me a real life stomachache.
There were a lot of things to hate here-- the stereotypical portrayal of a gay man as liking to be clean and neat, liking art and music, etc; the suicide attempt; the fact that Patsy had to comfort the straight wife and listen to her hand-wringing about her gay husband; the straight people sitting around the dinner table gossiping about the situation in front of Patsy (who I thought they knew was a lesbian--gah). All horrible and heinous. But I think the worst part was how the narrative actually compares queer people to rats. Monica Joan is trying to save rats from being poisoned and that is the echoing narrative of the story about the gay man and his wife.
I want to burn everything.
