sasha_featherI decided to treat myself to a movie today because I was feeling hot and stressed. It definitely helped me cool down. For some reason my heart was beating too hard and fast (possibly too little sleep) which did interfere with my enjoyment of the movie. I came home, took a little nap, and felt better.
Ocean's 8 is fun and lighthearted and has lots of likable characters. I especially enjoyed Helena Bonham Carter as a fashion designer-- this role fit her perfectly. Cate Blanchett's outfits were amazing. She wore several different awe-inspiring suits. Kudos to the costume team on this one.

I spent the whole movie thinking that Sarah Paulson was Kristen Wiig. These two actresses look almost identical. And her character was super boring: a white suburban housewife and mother who is the team's fence. Maybe the appeal is that the audience wouldn't expect someone so "normal" to be a criminal. But I wish they'd cast someone more interesting (maybe a non-white person), or done something more interesting with this character. She gets more lines than a lot of the other women and she held just zero interest for me.
It wasn't at all clear to me what the relationship between Debbie Ocean and Lou (Bullock and Blanchett) was supposed to be. Are they family? Ex-wives or girlfriends? They seemed very shippable to me which is why I want to know if they are related in canon.
I hope I'm not the only one who sees James Corden and is like, ugh. Again-- why didn't they cast someone more interesting. I mean here is a movie with 90 percent women--A candidate for a reverse bechdel fail (ie no men talking to each other)-- yet we still have a scene between two white British dudes. I mean if you're gonna go for an all-women film then just go all the way! haha.
