Quick rec for Black Mirror: San Junipero

Still feeling sicker than usual, so I've been watching things to distract myself. I really enjoyed the Black Mirror episode "San Junipero". I don't want to say too much about it, because the reveals are part of why I really loved it. I highly recommend it if you like science fiction, happy queer romance, and stories about women. It's on Netflix and is about an hour long.

Today I also:
I finished my 2nd playthrough of Mass Effect (#1).
Watched "Room", also on Netflix, which is a super intense and well-made film.
Went to the library.

I've heard good things about this but haven't watched any other Black Mirror because I fear it will be too dark for me. Does it require previous Black Mirror context?

Nope! I haven't watched any other eps either. I believe they are all stand-alone stories, like short stories in an SF/Horror anthology. This ep is very much SF and not horror.

They are all standalone, and I recommend San Junipero for everyone who doesn’t break out in hives at the thought of the 80’s or lesbians.

The rest of Black Mirror, skip. The first two episodes of season 1 are horror, not in the “what if” way, in the “someone thought this up and made it a tv show, I don’t want to be on the same planet with them” way. The rest range from depressing to grim to grim and depressing.

If you liked Get Out, there is an episode, Black Museum, which I have heard goes well with it. (I haven’t seen Get Out. Must remedy that.)

Adding my vote for San Junipero. The added memory of my own coming out in the 80s made the episode even more special.
