I made a spreadsheet of my favorite movies:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-8Dy1zwhtdQ_CCKL16KuZtBut4vWV9N6H5zes_D3oVk/edit#gid=0

Tab 2 has favorite TV shows, but I'm having a harder time thinking of those. It was helpful for me to put the genres in because it gives me a clue for what other movies to look for.

My mouth pain is flaring up, and I could use movie and TV recs. I like a lot of things, including LGBTQ, action, Science Fiction, animation, medical shows. I have had too much of torture scenes in TV shows and wish to avoid, though it's not a deal breaker. I also don't want to watch serial killer or murder shows at present. I particularly enjoy watching competent people a la Star Trek.

I have Netflix and Hulu, and access to the local library.

Thanks in advance! If you watch things from my fav. movie list, I'm interested to know what you think.

What We Do in the Shadows on Hulu is extremely funny.

If you haven't seen Legend of Korra, which is on Netflix, I highly recommend it. It gets a bad rap from some people, and parts of it are messy, but I really relate to Korra as a hero and I think you will love her a lot. I'm also SUPER GAY for so many characters on that show.

The Half of It on Netflix is a queer coming-of-age story that is just staggeringly beautiful, and I bet you'll relate to the hero a lot.

Have you tried Steven Universe? I love it very much and I think most of it is on Hulu. It took me a while to get into it -- the first few episodes feel very Kid's Show, but then it picks up.

If you liked Ponyo I think you would like Spirited Away, which is one of my favorite movies. I think it's on Netflix.

I also enjoyed Loving, about Loving vs Virginia. It's on Netflix. Not about LGBT relationships but it is about marriage equality.

Jurassic Park II: The Lost World and Jurassic Park III are both very bad, silly movies that I love and find entertaining. Both are on Netflix.

A Simple Favor is on Hulu -- a modern noir murder mystery with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively looking very hot. Not sure if this counts as a murder show; it's mostly a thriller and detective story.

If you like B99 I think you would enjoy Palm Springs on Hulu. It's a comedy but it does include a lot of death, [rot13 for spoiler] gur fnzr jnl Tebhaqubt Qnl qbrf.

The Birdcage is on Hulu; I remember liking it when it came out but it might be a very dated queer movie by now.

I just discovered that MythBusters is on Hulu! I bet we know people who could rec good eps for both of us. :)

Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is on Netflix and I think it is a nearly perfect superhero movie. I loved it SO much.

Always Be My Maybe on Netflix is a cute little romcom that I enjoyed a lot.

Netflix also has The Good Place, which is one of my favorite shows.

One anti-rec that I wish someone had given me: Outlander starts out as an AMAZING show with a really great D/s ship, but it quickly gets way more violent than I could stand. I would rec it for people who are into very heavy noncon + guro type stuff, but if you want to avoid torture, definitely don't watch it.

I hope some of that is helpful! <3

I second Raising Dion! It's excellent and has great representation.

Jane the Virgin is long (5 seasons) with high rewatch value. It's a "modern telenovela" and has a bit of everything: crime, diversity, romance, slice of life, etc.

The Baby-Sitter's Club got made into a tv series and the first season is on netflix, if that has any nostalgia weight with you.

Bojack Horseman is fantastic (also high rewatch value) but it gets crude and/or dark in ways that really don't mesh with some people. Adult cartoon, 6 seasons.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir is a kid's cartoon that has a decent fandom behind it. It's very cute, about secret superhero identities fighting against the Big Bad villain's scheme of the day while also juggling school and friends and crushes and stuff.

Cells at Work! is a super adorable anime about cells in the body. The manga was written by a doctor and has been praised as being very educational/accurate. It's pretty gore-y (in a blood way) when white blood cells kill bacteria but other than that it's very wholesome and tame.

If you haven't watched Nurse Jackie, I would highly recommend it! It's very on par with House.

American Vandal is a parody of true crime documentaries. No actual gore or murder, just "who spray painted these dicks" (season 1) and "who laced the food with laxatives?" (season 2) in a high school setting.

Both on Netflix

The Deep - animated kids show about a family with a submarine exploring the ocean depths and trying to save habitat / endangered species / historical sites. Sweet and warm and the female characters get to be brave and competent and not sexualised.

Glow - getting women's wrestling on TV in the 1980s. The women get to be competent and there's an F/F subplot.

On Netflix

Teenage bounty hunters. Two white teenage girls at a Christian school in the Deep South become bounty hunters [arresting people who have skipped their court date while on bail] working for a Black man and his Latinx love interest. Funny, sweet, everyone gets to be competent, and there's a F/F storyline.
