Doggie misadventure
Jul. 20th, 2021 04:32 pmAbbie had an Ordeal yesterday. She is ok and recovering.
To preface, we've gone to the dog park nearly every day for years on end with no problems. But, shit happens.
Yesterday she got bit by a dog that was coming in the gate as she was standing there waiting to leave. It didn't seem like a serious bite, but there was a big flap of skin dangling, so I took her straight over to the emergency vet (it was about 7 pm so regular vet was closed). There we waited for close to three hours. I couldn't concentrate enough to read; Abbie and I were both stressed out.
Eventually she got in to surgery and I went home for a bit. Finally at midnight I went and picked her up. She is supposed to wear a cone of shame to keep her from licking the wound. She absolutely hated the cone-- I think it scared her because it moves unpredictably-- so I am trying out a sock instead. I learned a way of cutting a long sock so that the foot goes over the dog's neck like a garter, and stays up.
She was bit above her right elbow and it is stitched up very nicely. She's on antibiotics and pain meds.
I was up all night and into the morning, unable to sleep. Abbie seems to be doing fine now.

May she heal quickly and uncomplicatedly and may you be reassured enough by her healing to sleep.

Date: 2021-07-21 01:55 am (UTC)Mellow yellow lab icon used deliberately. He might have grumbled at a dog who was bugging him, but he was more likely to walk away and stay away if somefuzzball annoyed him. Bite would have never crossed his mind. Sniff though, yes. :)
