Some things I watched!

Thirteen Lives - dir. Ron Howard, starring Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell.

AAAH this was so good! I loved it! This is a scripted depiction of the Thai cave rescue that happened in 2018, in which 13 young people were successfully rescued from a flooded cave, a seemingly impossible task. I also loved the documentary "The Rescue"; if you are interested in this kind of thing, I recommend them both. It's clearly a big story with a lot of facets. I loved how this movie gave time to the wisdom and expertise of local villagers.

The thing about rescue and survival stories is that they are about problem solving. Star Trek is like this and some other SF-- a complex problem that good people are trying to navigate, often as a group. I can't get enough of this kind of story telling.

Ms. Marvel - Disney Plus.

A delightful 6-episode series with lots of great color and music. I loved the celebration of Pakistani culture and the way Islam was depicted as a normal part of the characters' lives. The star, Iman Vellani, is wonderful.

The problem was that this series was too short. There are lots of characters and plots-- Kamala's extended family and its lore, high school friendships and crushes, magical beings, a secret society, and face-offs with two Big Bads. It needed more time to develop these ideas and let the tension build (or it needed a tighter focus).

Overall very fun!

Obi-Wan Kenobi - Disney Plus.

Honestly this was kind of boring and I didn't get much out of it, but it was pretty and had some great women characters. Actress Moses Ingram was the stand out star.

Ahhh, those sound nice.

Yes, group problem solving is the best --- and that's why MyGuy and myself were drawn to engineering, which is the group-solvingest profession (members of the team even include the people who will be fixing your work in 100 years).

I would love if they did an Obi-Wan spin-off series about Reva.

OT question: Did you see that Dessa is coming to town? (You probably knew this already.) To the Majestic, I think.
