Because my friends list knows ALL!

What are your recs for inexpensive MP3 players (not an iPod), on which I can listen to podfic? Surely one of you owns a super shiny one that you are very pleased with?

I'm traveling next week to Seattle, ZoMG, and I'm tired of this "no Pod" situation. I don't particularly want to bring my laptop along.

Also, as long as I'm asking, jobs you think I would be good at?

I am feeling the positive energy, yo.

I'm an ipod person myself, but I've heard good things from those who know about the "creative zen" brand. :)

How large an mp3 player are you looking for? And when you say "not an iPod," is it because you don't care for them or because they're too expensive?

I ask because I am an iPod Nano girl - I have a 16GB 4th gen Nano, which I find to be more than enough space for rotating podfic and music in and out. If you don't want to carry the whole contents of your music files, a Nano might do it for $150 (8GB) or $200 (16GB) new or $100 (8GB) refurbished.

If you don't care for them, I don't know what else to suggest. But I will say "Seattle?" and prick up my ears, metaphorically.

Also I'm a PC person and don't want to use iTunes.

I used iTunes on a PC for years--just a data point! Not sure if your sentence means "I am a PC person" and also in addition you don't want to use iTunes anyway, or if you think using iTunes on a PC is unwieldy, etc.

I use an Oregon Scientific waterproof mp3 player. I think it's great, and orange, but that's because it won't break if I drop it. I don't think Oregon Scientific makes mp3 players anymore, though, but you can get them on ebay still.

I like it for listing to Brian Ibbott's Lyrics Undercover.

I love my iTouch and iPod shuffle, so I'm no help.

i like my Sansa 2g clip player. has a radio as well, which i like, and 2g is plenty of room for me. it was like...40 dollars or something? the controls are a little fiddly (the off/on is a slide switch on one side and i never manage to turn it off in one try), but i don't find it annoying enough to not recommend the player. the headphones it comes with died pretty quickly, but again, I always buy other headphones for players anyway.

Excellent; I have been checking out the ones on Best Buy's site, and it looks like that is the one I will probably buy.

MATC is hiring for a lot of jobs- including teaching positions, for which you only need a masters!
