What I've been watching!
Dec. 18th, 2019 05:08 pm30 days of Night - 2007 - starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George
A vampire horror movie set in Barrow, Alaska, where there is a month of total darkness around the solstice. Perfect to watch in late December here -- the perfect Christmas movie! This was a fun story, extremely gory, and not too scary. Recommended to me by Sol-Se on twitter. This was filmed in New Zealand. I would have liked to see more indigenous Alaskan actors in it. Content notes: animal harm, blood, gore. I got this out from the library.
Kitten Rescuers - Netflix
A heartwarming show about the RSPCA (Royal society for the prevention of cruelty to animals) and people rescuing cats. There's a nice variety presented in the 8 episodes. They do that annoying thing where they tell you what is coming, then recap during the show, repeating information and clips, a la "Dateline NBC". I liked the presenter, Jo Brand, who is a fat woman of a certain age and has a great dry sense of humor. This show is fairly matter-of-fact and does discuss euthanasia. They show some surgeries also. There are some science segments and a bit about the wildcats of Scotland. Recommended. Additional content note: fat shaming of a cat.
