I'm watching My Name is Earl streaming on NetFlix and enjoying it so much that I often watch several half-hour episodes at a time. This is a goofy comedy about criminals, low-lifes, poor people, illegal immigrants, etc. I am on Season 3 so please don't spoil me for anything!

Earl was a scoundrel until he won money in the lottery and was immediately hit by a car. He learned about karma while watching TV and decided to turn his life around. So, he made a list of all the bad things he'd ever done (well over 200 things) and tries to make up for them through the show.

When I described this to my roommate, he said, "Oh, it's about redemption," but upon reflection, I think it's more about faith and belief. Earl spends very little time feeling guilty or having angst. There is no man pain here! Instead he focuses on positive action, holding to his belief that if he follows the rules of the list-- acts in good faith-- then life/karma will continue to reward him and the people around him.

His friends are his brother Randy, the hotel maid Catalina, Earl's ex-wife Joy, and Joy's husband Crabman aka Darnell. The main locations are a run-down hotel where Earl and Randy live (and Catalina works), the trailer park where Joy and Darnell live, and the Crab Shack.

It's a very funny show with a positive, upbeat tone, and I recommend it. The humor is affectionate towards its characters.

I think my favorite scene from this show is when Joy is taking happy pills and the neighbors keep throwing things through their window, and when a beer can or something hits one of the kids heads, she marches over and chewerfully explains that she's going to stop taking the pills and come back as soon as she has a nice homicidal rage going.

I really enjoyed the first couple seasons of that show.

One of my favorite lines was when Patty the Daytime Hooker lamented that she failed to entice a guy, despite the fact that she took out her "good boob."

There are a few problematic parts but I do watch the reruns when I catch them. I am a sucker for the one guy in the English as a Second Language class that Earl teaches. His name is Nescobar A Lop Lop and he steals pens. And now whenever someone steals my pen I think "Nescobar!!"

I loved this show! It was one of the last sitcoms I ever regularly watched as they aired. :p

I believe it was season 3 that had one of the Greatest Musical Sequences of All Time. Plus I loved the delightfully meta "Our 'COPS' is On!" episodes.

Yea, I'd say it's pretty aggressively NOT about redemption a lot of the time.
