I enjoyed the shit out of this movie!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Wylie, a bike messenger who is enjoying his life in NYC, until he gets a package that causes him no end of trouble. This movie takes place over one afternoon as he tries to deliver the package and evade the folks who are chasing him. There are occasional flashbacks to explain things. It is well-written and filmed; just a good underdog story.

I recommend this movie if you like JGL, bike messengers, New York, and/or exciting fun movies. Also there is an MCR song in it!

eta: also the other actors are great, and are mostly people of color.

Is it bloody gory violence, or messengers flying off the hoods of cars violence?

I read in an "about the movie" that JGL does most of his own stunts, on a fixed gear bike with no brakes! I think he must have his own personal angel.

A little of both? The flying off the bikes is minimal. There is a scene or two with the bad guy beating people up/getting beat upon, for very nefarious purposes.

They made a big deal out of "Wylie has a death wish! He rides a fixed gear bike with no brakes!" It was cool. Also they showed a brief outtake at the end where he clearly did his own stunt and broke the windshield of a taxi.

But there are messengers — in NYC, in Madison, in Chicago — riding no-brake fixies. Clearly a 12-speed isn't required, but sealed 3-speed hub would make some sort of sense. Also, since so much city traffic is stop and go, it just seems polite to provide stop-and-go on the bike.

Definitely not gore, imo. Blood + bangs + high-speed impacts.

I recognized Katara in your icon! Book 1 down, definitely enjoying it but sipping not firehose.

I think this was my favorite movie I saw all year! Yes, even more than Avengers! Partly because it was about underdogs, and partly b/c it did not try to do "too much", it just did its thing well.
