Previews from the movie:

I usually try to catch all the previews but walked in a few minutes late this time.

Red Sparrow:
Jennifer Lawrence doing a weird accent, in a movie that looks like it should be about Black Widow. I read on twitter that this film is rapey.

Annihilation:
Lots of women in this one, and it's science fiction, and I love Natalie Portman.
BUT it's horror, which I don't love, and it touted itself as being "by the director of Ex Machina," which is a film I loathed.

Love, Simon:
a teen coming-out film. This one looks totally heartwarming, and needed.

Red Sparrow made me wonder why we don't have a Black Widow movie already because that would work.

Jennifer Lawrence just doesn't sell that trailer for me. But then, there's very little I like her in.

I do want to have a go at Annihilation. It looks intriguing although now I want to read the book.

Oddly enough I came across a reference to the original red sparrow concept the other day, it was purportedly the Russian Cold-War era school for spies whose MO was honeytraps - so even at best it would be people compelled to have sex for the job with people they then blackmail.

"Love, Simon" is based on the book "Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda," which is really excellent. My kids have both read the book: Kiera is pretty sure the movie won't be as good, but she wants to see it anyway. We all think "Love, Simon" was not a great title for the movie, although "Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda" is a great book title that wouldn't make a great movie title.

The thing that really strikes me about the previews of "Love, Simon" -- it looks like it's being presented as a teen movie where the main character is gay, as opposed to being presented as a gay movie. Which I'm all in favor of, because of the wider reach.
