Challenge #3

Pimp Your Favorite Communities, Fests or Challenges!

I'd like us to not use "pimp". Let us say promote, highlight, spotlight, shine, sparkle... etc.

I used to be really into DW communities but they seem to have drifted away and diminished. I haven't participated in challenges or fests in recent years, except for watching Festivids, which I really look forward to and enjoy. The idea of doing fic challenges is stressful to me, but I do like the snowflake challenge, and writing prompts in general. I'd always like to write more, and these prompts are helpful.

But there are many low-pressure writing communities around, where you only can jump in when a prompt speaks to you. Challenges are not only Big Bangs and writing exchanges (with I don't like to do either because then (for me) writing turns into exercising a duty and its not fun anymore).

I used to love fic challenges and fests because I liked the structure and deadline built in that I needed. But with life happening more and more--against my will--it just became too stressful. But yes, things that give you a low to no pressure challenge, a jumping off point really, for thinky thoughts and bunnies and whatnot, I'm all for.

[community profile] allbingo is a high-inspiration, low-stress community. We run a fest every month, currently Less Usual Bingo Patterns. While the fests typically have a one-month timeframe, you can play any card at any time; there's no firm deadline. You can also get on our Bingo Card Generator and just use the prompt lists for whatever you want. 1x1 feeds you a single random prompt from your selected list.

[community profile] crowdfunding also runs a Creative Jam on the third weekend of every month (except December) so that's a good place to find prompts also. Next up will be Jan. 18-19 on "Power and Corruption."

Both of the above communities are active in a burst pattern, on event days, with a scattering of activity outside then.

For even less stress, you can lurk on someone else's prompt call in their journal. I run a Poetry Fishbowl on the first Tuesday of each month; next up is Jan. 7 with a theme of "Short Forms" (so anything goes in the actual topic). I get loads of prompts and totally don't mind other folks writing to them. Nobody will know if you do, unless you mention it, so no pressure!

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer does Magpie Monday with a theme on the second Monday of each month, and Feathering the Nest for nonsexual intimacies on the fourth Monday.

No sign-ups or other obligations, just ideas floating around for folks to grab whatever looks fun.

Outside the range of fanfic/origfic prompts, you can also find lists of blog post prompts:

https://coschedule.com/blog/creative-blog-post-ideas-and-topics/

https://optinmonster.com/50-blog-post-ideas-that-you-can-write-about-today/

I like to grab long lists of things and post them one at a time for discussion. Currently I'm running Self-Awareness Questions and Community Building Tips under Recurring Posts. This is a great way to keep up your blog activity for very little work, and spark some fun discussions.

Here via Snowflake, and I just wanted to thank you for bringing up that word choice and some preferable alternatives. I'm not too comfortable with it myself, but I didn't have the brain to do more than avoid using it in my own post for Challenge #3. I appreciate that you put it into words!
