I can't think of any others that are this direct, but covers done by women sometimes "fix" a song for me. The Indigo Girls have talked about changing the lyrics to some of their songs too, and telling the audience beforehand so they can sing along to the new lyric (I saw this on Colbert or somewhere).

The radio station I used to listen to in Raleigh used to play "Major Tom (coming home)" a fair bit, which meant that I had probably heard it a dozen times before I had even heard of David Bowie and "Space Oddity," and I had probably heard it a hundred times before I ever listened to "Space Oddity" or realized that "Major Tom" was fix-it fanfic.

It's just weird to think about this before-internet, before-streaming era, when the only point of reference I had for David Bowie was somebody else's fix-it fanfic, and I couldn't just pull up Spotify and hear David Bowie.

I remember music in particular being hard to access or find information about. I considered it cool when people knew who sang what song, how did they know that? I aspired to know these arcane facts!
