I took Sorcha to the vet this week because she's been whining more than usual, especially in the evening and at night. She was keeping me up and waking me up with her whining, and also refusing to hop up into the car, which is unusual. I saw a new vet whom I liked much better than the previous two-- this one is not nearly so alarmist or in favor of intervention. She gave Sorcha some pain pills which seem to be helping, and then today called and said it could be due to a bit of hypothyroidism, which is treatable. She is the first person to call Sorcha's weight "perfect", rather than saying she's underweight. All in all, pretty good.

Yay for pain pills, and double yay for a possible cause. Be sure not to feed her seaweed (interferes with absorption of thyroid supplements). Which reminds me, how do you add iodine to a dog's diet?

Salt is Iodized! That is the easiest way to add iodine to anyone's diet, and the reason that most of us don't get goiters these days, IIRC.

LOL, the idea of giving seaweed to Sorcha. She wouldn't eat it unless it had butter on it anyway.

Seaweed + butter + cheese. Mmmmmm.

I bet if I wrapped seaweed around some raw tuna or crab-and-avocado she snarf it right down.

There was a time I ate seaweed-wrapped rice crackers as snacks, and preferred kosher salt (not iodized), and my endocrinologist was horrified. I've seen the error of my ways, now.
