sasha_feather: Nux running (mad max) (nux running)
I already feel like I'm losing it, and then tonight there is a very loud, low, humming noise coming from the ceiling right over my bed. This is in addition to the very loud air conditioner which the upstairs neighbors are also running constantly. Today Christina had to ask them to move away from our open windows while they smoked.

I am unable to sleep, so I'm just going to plan on staying up all night. It's a lot easier to sleep in the daytime even with noise happening, and I feel bad about it, because I guess I need something to feel bad about. Even though I have literally no where to be and no time commitments. Going to try to lean into the vampire lifestyle. Pain remains high, mostly in my face and mouth, but also tonight in my feet. As always, writing it out helps.

Animals seen today: lots of dogs including a Dalmation; a fish in the creek; a red-wing blackbird; Canada geese. Lilacs are starting to bloom.

Here is a good article about the making of Mad Max: Fury Road (warning for a moving image at the top of the article).

Something slightly creepy happened today and I just want to document it. Related to our landlords / property managers.

Lately I'm happier when I simply allow myself to be awake and active in the evening and at night, sleep during the morning, and rest during the afternoon. Resting means sitting and watching TV, usually. Ironically the main things I have to do during the 9-5 hours which involve leaving the house are doctor appointments and going to the pharmacy, ie seeking health care whilst having a sleep disorder.

Running errands at night has led to several interesting encounters with my fellow creatures of the night. Hy-Vee is our 24-hour grocery store. It's a giant place, super brightly lit, and at this hour the stockers are out shelving items. I wore my X-23 shirt today (from the movie Logan), which led to 2 of the employees engaging me in fairly long monologues about comics, which was hilarious since I know approximately zilch about superhero comics! Maybe I should get a shirt about graphic memoirs.

A few months ago, returning my library books at 2 AM, a stranger approached me in the deserted parking lot. Note that, while he appeared to come out of nowhere, I didn't get a threatening or creepy vibe from him at all. He seemed friendly and shouted "Hey big guy!" at me (seeing me from behind). When I turned around, he said, "OH I'm sorry." He then spoke very fast and told me some sort of story, to which I said, "What are you asking for? Do you need money?" I gave him a couple of bucks, and then he disappeared again. Where did he come from?? Anyways I treasure his "big guy" and it makes me think about that as a friendly term of endearment for men, while fat women don't get afforded this privilege.

1. Sometime in June I decided to put plastic sheeting and duct tape over the open car window of my neighbor's car. It rained a lot in June, and it bothered me every time I parked my car, seeing this nice car with its window down, the owners nowhere to be seen, and rain coming in. I also put some plastic lids with baking soda on them inside the car to try and reduce the smell.

Today my neighbors returned from their long vacation in Europe. They thanked me warmly for taking care of their car, saying they don't know what happened with the window. They gave me a box of Belgian chocolates. The man had talked with me before about Minnesota-- I am from MN, and he'd lived in the Twin Cities while getting his degree. So when I said, "No problem, it seemed like the neighborly thing to do," he said, "Maybe the Minnesotan thing to do."

2. I went to a Disability Pride Madison festival. It was cold, but fun. I met a few folks.

3. I gave away some spider plants by setting them on the curb.
