sasha_feather: Sheep with Dreamwidth Logo (Dream sheep)
This post is to say that I really appreciate all of you who post recs for fic, art, vids, podfic, articles, or whatever. Even if you think, "Everyone's already seen this!", I probably haven't. I really like recs! It saves me from digging through for fic/fanworks on my own; it tells me what other people are enjoying and thinking about; it is how I get most of my internet reading material really. I especially love it when you say a bit about why you like or love the piece (I admit I don't always do this).

I'm going to take a moment to reiterate my internet pet-peeve, which is when people don't identify where the link leads. Maybe I already *have* seen the thing you are reccing, but can't tell, because you only say I really liked this X men fic instead of saying Slight Return, X-Men, AU, Charles/Eric, by aesc. It's also simply nice to know where the link is going to take me. People who are experienced, thoughtful reccers and linkers also include bits of html like style=light when linking to journals, or they link to the complete work in AO3. That makes me happy!

Some good reccers and comms to follow:

There is an article over at Utne reader written by SURVEY FAIL folks and promoting their hideous book.

Here is a link to the last page if you want to leave a comment! Things you could say might include: Why didn't the authors use an IRB in their research? Why were lesbians not included in this research? Why do the authors conflate animal and human sexuality? Why are the authors essentialist about gender?

An excellent review of the book can be found here: http://thetyee.ca/Books/2011/07/05/SexOnBrains/

1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?

Because someone sent me an invite code! That's the real reason. Once here, I warmed up to DW really fast; now I hardly ever go to LJ.

2. Why did you choose your journal name? What does it mean?

Sasha is a variant of Alexander, as is my given name; Alexander means "protector of mankind." No pressure.

Sasha was bestowed upon me by my friend Esther in college. The Feather part I added later because it sounded nice. I do answer to Sasha in analog world.

3. Do you use other blogging sites? Why or why not?

Um, I do cross post to LJ but I'm trying to abandon it. Someday will be the LAST DAY I CROSSPOST. Maybe yesterday will be that day, who knows. So far I do not feel any need to have a separate blog. Perhaps one day I will.

Have I mention how much I love the download feature at Archive of Our Own. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Speaking of which, I have 1 A03 invite if anyone would like it. Comment or PM. I still have several Dreamwith invites as well.

Today is a good day for fandom!

1. [personal profile] lim's new fanvid to True Blood, Dilute! You can watch this even if you haven't seen the show, I think, though you should be forwarned that it is, like the show, kind of bloody (it is about vampires). This vid is amazing, it uses the cool intro and has great music.

The show is totes awesome and you should watch it if you haven't. Plz note that I have only seen the first season via NetFlix (I don't like downloading, whatever), so please don't spoil me for season 2! I think S2 is released this month.

2. [personal profile] were_duck wrote Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot which is an explicit Olivia/Astrid fic from Fringe. Or rather, Olivia/Esther from the episode "Brown Betty" (a canon AU noir). Haaaawt.

3. [personal profile] fiercelydreamed wrote I lie, I cheat, I steal (and I just don't get any respect), a Leverage/White Collar Crossover. Gen. Hilarious, the voices are spot-on, I love it.

I noticed that the default status for DW is to disallow anonymous comments. I recently changed mine to allow them. I feel a little silly because basically I've been making it impossible for people to comment on my fic unless they are DW users.

I suppose this is a good time to say I really appreciate all the comments that I get! I don't deserve them. Sometimes I forget to respond but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate comments!

:)

I missed the internet SO MUCH you guys. I love my dwircle like woah. And yes I just got a paid account, so likely SILLY POLLS will be appearing soon. Be afraid.

ALSO! I went through and checked the box that said "This journal should be viewed with discretion." Because really, shouldn't everything be viewed with discretion? But now I have a little "NSFW" red box that appears on my entries. :( I think I might uncheck that.

I think you should read this fic, Blood and Oil, by [personal profile] anna_bird. It is Firefly, Kaylee/Simon, rated adult. It's a snapshot of Simon's life, his headspace post-Serenity, and it's vivid and real.

If you haven't read Homo Ex Machina by [personal profile] toft, well, read it. READ IT. It's Holmes/Watson and oh so NC-17.

I HAVE SUCH A MIGRAINE RIGHT NOW AND I FEEL THE NEED TO SAY IT IN CAPSLOCK.

Mostly for my own reference, I'm writing down the podfic I listened to on my trip. (But if you see any errors feel free to point them out.) Someday perhaps I will get around to leaving actual feedback on these.

lotsa SGA podfic! )

I also listened to some music, which was basically: Neko Case > play all.
