the Nightstand Project
Apr. 17th, 2019 09:45 pmInspired by a post Jesse the K made about "the Nightstand Project"-- a gallery of photos of the nightstands of people with chronic illness-
(see https://jesse-the-k.dreamwidth.org/293658.html), I am sharing pictures of my nightstand and my "day stand" (the small table that sits by my recliner).

Nightstand. Top drawer is open showing medications and a wrist brace. The top of the stand has a blue lamp, a bottle of lotion, a glass of water, a folded handkerchief, and some meds. My iPod sits on the edge; I use this for an alarm clock when needed, and for listening to "rain sounds" on youtube to help me fall asleep.

Day stand. Contains: My phone, a box of tissues, Icy Hot cream, Lidocaine cream, a glass of lemonade, and 3 little microfiber rags that I use to clean my glasses. Also a pencil. Stuff accumluates on this table and I have to clear it off regularly.

Sep. 12th, 2016 02:20 pm*I'm trying out lowering my topomax dose from 75 mg to 50.
*The weather is cooler thank goodness.
*I survived a large family gathering over Labor Day.
*I called Building inspection for city of Madison; a guy is coming tomorrow to look at the AC unit.
*Forgot to link it here-- I wrote a blog post at WordPress about working on anti-harassment for WisCon; in response to Jim Hine's io9 article. He RTed it so it got a fair number of hits!

*I'm reading a long DA:I fanfic called "Stuck in the Puzzle". I don't know this fandom at all, but the fic is really good so far.

I've just tagged and organized hundreds of my photos. I'm so excited!! Observations made while tagging: a) For a self-proclaimed non-vain person, I have quite a few self-portraits! b)

Here is perhaps the best photo I've ever taken:

Many many thanks to dear Jesse the K!!!!
Photo policy?
May. 27th, 2009 12:09 amI have a lot of pictures from WisCon, which I've uploaded to Flickr. In light of last year's troll incident, I have locked them all unless people have indicated that unlocking is OK. So, you can add me as a contact on Flickr and I will add you back to grant access; you can have me email photos to you, or let me otherwise know what you'd like me to do or what your policy is on photos and names/identities, and that would be fabulous. I think I will make a locked post on LJ/DW with some of these photos but I'd like to know people's names policies are. If that makes sense. You can leave a comment or email me at sandphin@gmail.com.
It's the Monday before WisCon!
May. 18th, 2009 05:38 pmI am really happy with some of my photos lately. This one is for "Bug's Eye" theme at The Photography Experience at LJ.

Today I finished reading The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, one of the winners of this year's Tiptree Awards. We read it for Beer and Marmalade Book Club.
All I can really say is HOLY CRAP WOW and WHEN DOES THE NEXT BOOK COME OUT?! And it was MEAN to end on a cliff hanger like that!!
I'm off to book club in a few minutes. I'm all sinus-headachey lately, boo, but super excited for WisCon!!!!!!
You know, I used to have the county fair, in my youth. It was the best week of the year. I'm kind of a joiner; I was really involved in 4-H. Not only did I participate in 20 different project areas, in was in youth leaders, an officer in the club, I did interstate exchange, state records, the communications contest, etc etc. But the county fair was the best! I showed my livestock and my different projects, got to see friends I hardly ever saw, ate fair food (ick), and roamed around the fairgrounds with free rein with my friends, all week. It was fantastic.
Well, now I have WisCon to get excited about! OK, there is no livestock, no fair food (good), but I do get to see and meet people, I get to volunteer, and I have something to look forward to every year where I can hang out with my friends and talk about stuff I love. There are similarities.
